Working out at home

Working Out at Home

Working out at home is often the easiest and most convenient way to give yourself a daily dose of exercise. It requires no gym membership and there is no commuting time. Plus, you can squeeze in a workout any time, day or night!

Meanwhile, experts recommend 150 minutes of exercise each week, or 30 minutes per 5 times per week. But those 30 minutes don’t have to be all at once. In fact you can break that down into smaller chunks, which is easier to do when you are working out at home.

There are so many health benefits of working out consistently, which you can read about by clicking here. Haven’t yet formed a habit of daily exercise? This is a great time to start! And working out at home can alleviate some barriers and dial down the intimidation factor.

Wondering where to begin? We’ve put together a list of great “at home” health apps and workouts to get you started. We also share details on our Get Moving program, whereby we pair you with a Certified Personal Trainer who will design a program just for you. Read on for some great ideas.

Working out at home with apps and online programs

The sky is the limit when it comes to finding online resources for working out at home. Below are just a few of our favorites. Check them out, and see if any of them are a good fit for you.

Peloton

The Peloton app is ideal for working out at home. In fact you don’t even need to own a Peloton bike or a Peloton Tread (their brand of treadmill). You can take advantage of Peloton’s wide array of classes without this equipment. Instead try strength training, yoga, outdoor running, HIIT or stretching. There are various tiers of membership, including one level that offers select classes for free – no credit card required!

Blogilates

Blogilates was founded by fitness entrepreneur and certified pilates instructor Cassey Ho, who also created the eco-conscious fitness fashion brand Popflex. Her free online workouts pair fun music with pilates. These are designed to be done with little or no equipment – perfect for working out at home! You can find her easy-to-follow workouts on the Blogilates website, and also on Youtube, where her channel has over 7 million subscribers.

Nike Training Club

The ubiquitous sports brand offers a free app called Nike Training Club. It features over 100 workout video classes including strength training, cardio, yoga and more. Most of the classes require no equipment and are therefore ideal for working out at home.

FitOn

FitOn is an app designed to give you daily workouts with the equipment you already have on hand (even if you don’t have any). Fill out a questionnaire and receive a personalized workout plan based on your personal fitness and health goals. It also factors in the types of workouts you prefer (dance, cardio. strength, stretch and more).

The app offers a wide variety of classes for working out at home, and even features celebrity trainers with names and faces you’ll recognize. Classes are free, but the app offers more functionality with an upgrade. However, a full year costs just $29 at the time of this post’s publication, so it’s very affordable.

Working out at Home Using YouTube

YouTube has a multitude of different exercise videos that are ideal for workout out at home. You can find free yoga videos of all different levels, dance workouts, and almost anything that suits your interest. Here are a couple ones we love:
