Let your registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) help you manage the side effects of your treatment and develop a cancer nutrition plan to lower your risk of reoccurrence or developing certain cancers.

“Being a patient and going through chemotherapy, surgeries, and radiation has made me a better dietitian. I had several complications and side effects from medications that I was able to help manage with proper nutrition.  My surgeons were amazed at how quickly I recovered from an 8-hour surgery because of my diet.  I know what it is like to be sick, but I also know the strategies to live through it and come out better on the other side.”

– Christina Brochet MA, RDN, LDN, CDE

Did you know?

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention), more than 1.6 million people are diagnosed with cancer and nearly 600,000 die from it each year, which makes it the second leading cause of death in the United States.  Several risk factors for preventable cancers include smoking, UV radiation exposure, being overweight or having obesity, and increased alcohol intake.

Additionally, the American Cancer Society recommends maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active, eating a healthy diet, with emphasis on plant-based foods, and limiting alcohol intake to minimize cancer risk.

Studies by the American Institute for Cancer Research have shown that carrying excess body fat can increase the risk of several types of cancer.
