Did You Know?
Evidence shows that adequate nutrition promotes cancer recovery and reduces the rate of recurrence.
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention), more than 1.6 million people are diagnosed with cancer and nearly 600,000 die from it each year, which makes it the second leading cause of death in the United States. Several risk factors for preventable cancers include smoking, UV radiation exposure, being overweight or having obesity, and increased alcohol intake.
Additionally, the American Cancer Society recommends maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active, eating a healthy diet, with emphasis on plant-based foods, and limiting alcohol intake to minimize cancer risk.
Studies by the American Institute for Cancer Research have shown that carrying excess body fat can increase the risk of several types of cancer.
