New Year’s Resolutions
As a Health Coach I work with people every year in regards to what New Year’s resolution they want to set for themselves. According to ABC news the top 3 resolutions are:
Enjoy life to the fullest
Live a healthier lifestyle
Everyday I coach multiple people on what areas of wellness they want to improve. Although I hear they want to enjoy life to the fullest and live a healthier lifestyle, neither one falls into the number one category. The number one thing I hear on a daily basis is that people want to lose weight. This should not come to any surprise considering two out of three adults are considered overweight or obese (National Institute of Health).
Clients consistently ask me “what is the best method to lose weight”? Unfortunately the answer is not black and white and it’s different for everyone. What I can tell you is that you must change your current lifestyle to achieve any kind of weight loss. One approach is to start with a cleanse of the diet. This can give you the mental boost you need to get you into the right mindset. This prepares your mind and body to start losing those unwanted pounds.
Another strategy is to have a support system in place. Let’s face it, there are no quick fixes to weight loss and it takes dedication and hard work. Support systems can come in many forms but common ones are a friend, a health coach or a support group.
I have seen the most success with clients that have a professional on their side, such as a dietitian and a strong support system. You may want to consider working side by side with one of our registered dietitian nutritionist that can coach you and challenge you with S.M.A.R.T goals. S.M.A.R.T goals are very specific time based goals and have been shown to be a successful approach for behavior change.
