Eat with the environment in mind.
Eating with the environment in mind is a crucial step towards a more sustainable and healthy lifestyle. Enjoy more plant-based meals and snacks, as meat and dairy production can have a significant environmental impact. Start to incorporate plant based proteins, including edamame, nuts and seeds, whole grains, and beans and legumes regularly into your diet. Think about ways to minimize packaging to reduce waste and conserve resources. Shop at local produce spots that don’t use plastic for packing, buy in season, or start a garden to enjoy fresh, healthy produce. By making these simple changes, we can all make a positive impact on the planet while nourishing you body.
Work with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
Working with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) can be a valuable part of achieving your health goals. If you’re unsure where to start, ask your doctor for a referral to an RDN, who can provide individualized nutrition guidance based on your unique needs. An RDN can also help you understand how nutrient needs may change with age, and provide personalized recommendations for optimal nutrition at any stage of life. With the guidance of an RDN, you can receive evidence-based nutrition information to help you make choices and reach your goals.
Stay nourished and save money.
Eating healthy doesn’t have to break the bank. By planning your meals and snacks, you can save money and ensure you’re getting the nutrients your body needs. Before heading to the store, take inventory of what food you already have at home to avoid purchasing unnecessary items. Using a grocery list and shopping sales can also help you save money while still providing nutritious options. Learn about community resources (SNAP, WIC, and local food banks) to provide assistance if needed. With a little planning and education, you can feel your best without spending outside of your budget.
Eat a variety of foods.
Eating a variety of foods is key to achieving a well-balanced and nutritious diet. Your body thrives on diversity. Don’t be afraid to include your favorite foods and traditions, as these can provide comfort, high quality nutrients, and joy. Avoid fad diets that promote unnecessary restrictions, as these can often lead to nutrient deficiencies and unhealthy relationships with food. Work to practice gratitude for your body by giving it the fuel it needs to live your best, high quality life. By incorporating these habits into your lifestyle, you can achieve a healthy and sustainable relationship with food.
Make food at home
Making tasty foods at home is not only healthier, but much more fun and cost-effective. Learning to cook and prepare meals can help incorporate foods and flavors that you’ll actually look forward to eating. Don’t be afraid to try new flavors and foods to expand your palate and add variety. Additionally, finding creative ways to use leftovers rather than tossing them can help reduce food waste and save money. Think about how you can cross-utilize and recreate individual parts of your meals for a different feel and taste. Create memories by eating with friends and family. Food is meant to be enjoyed with good company!
