Holiday Cranberry Sauce

It’s time to ditch the canned stuff! This cranberry sauce recipe will be the shining star of your holiday table. Never worked with cheese cloth before? If you can’t find any at your local grocery store, you can find it at stores like JoAnn Fabric or Walmart.

INGREDIENTS

– 1.5 cups red wine
– 3/4 cup white sugar
– 6 whole cloves
– 6 all spice berries
– 2 cinnamon sticks
– 3 pieces of ginger, cut cross wise
– 1/4 orange peel
– 12 ounces fresh cranberries

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Cut a square piece of cheesecloth about 7″. Cut a piece of kitchen string about 3 inches long.
  2. In the center of the cheesecloth combine the cloves, allspice berries, cinnamon sticks, ginger and orange peel. Gather the sides together and tie the kitchen string in a knot to secure.
  3. In a medium saucepan add the cranberries, sugar, wine, and spice bag.
  4. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Fish out the spice bag and discard.
  5. Transfer the sauce to a bowl or container and refrigerate until cold. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
